A game of two halves for the A's and the C's win cements a top 5 spot

A Grade Report

A game of two halves. We were terrible in the second quarter  in the twenty minutes just before half time and were six goals behind at the break. To our credit, we fought back with a lot of character and in a tense last quarter had some chances before losing by only six points with the siren sounding as the ball was going deep into our forward lines. Better players were Craig Holm, Ben Birch, Matt Footner, Sam Bridge, Peter Baccanello and Will O'Malley.

With the other results on Saturday, our season is now balanced on a knife edge as we look to be more consistent in a very even competition. It would be great to see a lot of supporters there on Saturday and a desperate responsefrom our playing group. Hopefully a couple of key players will soon be back from injury to boost our on ball stocks.

B Grade Report

We started the game really positively and full of running and played some of the best footy all year. We continued into the early part of the second term but towards the end of the quarter Walkerville started to control the game and fed off some of our undisciplined acts.

The second half was disappointing. We lost all competitiveness and desire to compete and they smashed us. It was very much a case of Jekyll and Hyde in terms of how good we were in the first half compared with the second half. Whilst we fought back in the last quarter, the damage and confidence was shattered. Pleasingly, Alex McKenzie continued his good form in ruck, Julian Ryan looked dangerous up forward, Andy O'Connor made the most of his opportunities and Sam Bowler tried hard all day on his wing.

As a group we all take responsibility for our poor second half and the focus needs to be playing good consistent footy for 4 quarters, not thinking about the possibility of participating in finals for the first time in 5 years.

We owe ourselves, the club and its supporters to bring a much more disciplined and aggressive performance to the table this week against Flinders Park.

C Grade Report

The C's faced Walkerville in the first game of a triple header in a contest that loomed as season defining for both teams. Unfortunately the early start did not agree with us and we produced an abysmal first half which contributed to a 5 goal deficit midway through the third quarter.

From that point on the C's lifted their intensity, worked harder, ran harder and ultimately kicked the last 7 goals of the game to finish over the top of Walkerville. This was a rousing win for the team as it showed great spirit and resilience to fight back so brilliantly.

Our best players for the day were Ned Taylor who was very assured at half back and influential in the midfield, Dan Gilbert who provided great drive for four quarters, Matt Zamparelli who racked up possessions at will, Brendon Edson who marked well and contested strongly and Alex Kelly who did an excellent job on one of the competition's leading goal kickers.

All in all, this was a fantastic result for us and has now cemented a finals spot for the team. The challenge for us now is to build as much momentum as possible leading into the finals.
