Round 7 Report
A's & B's vs Modbury and C's vs SPOC - triple header at home
As has become the norm in recent times, Round 7 saw ROCS at home in another triple-header.
The C's were up against SPOCS in the 10.15 game, and won the match comfortably : 15.13 to 4.0.
Joe Tarca was best, followed by Tyler Gava (4 goals), John McCarron, Trent Versace, Marcus Quinn and Kristian Burchett. Liam Holland kicked 5 goals, and Steve Marotti 3.
The win leaves the undefeated ROCS a game clear in top spot. Coach Steve Edwards, with the help of captain Matt Sauer, and veterans Simon Emanuele and Paul Norris, has done an excellent job in rotating/managing as many players as possible. After 7 Rounds, 49 players have represented the club in the C's. This week Emmanuel Mangas played his first game for the Red and Blacks.
ROCS then followed up with another win in the B Grade. Trailing Modbury at quarter time, ROCS convincingly won the next 3 quarters, and ran out winners : 16.9 to 6.3.
Chris Pahl was again best on ground, Connor Deegan and Chris Ash were creative, Ben Jonas was solid, whilst Scott Gilbert and Anthony Medhurst continued on with their good form. Blake Mios was dangerous around goals with 3 majors.
Damien Polkinghorne and his assistant coach Paul "Shafty/Magnets" Schaftenaar have done a fine job so far this season. The side is undefeated, and this week faces equal top side Adelaide University.
The A's got away to a reasonable start, but trailed Modbury by 6 points at quarter time. ROCS then got right on top in the last 3 quarters, eventually winning 19.14 to 10.11.
In a "All played well" team performance, Craig Holm was best, followed by Daniel McCallum, captain Will O'Malley, Ollie Wilkie, James Jordan and Charlie Jordan. The side had 13 individual goal-kickers, with Heath Commane and Nick Dinham kicking 3 each. Tom Hurley played his 50th game for the club.
Adrian Rocco and his Assistant Coaches, Greg Moulton and Michael Coad, have slotted in very well at the Quarry, and the club could not have asked for a better start to the season. The A's now face another danger game this week, against Adelaide University.
For something different we have a triple-header at home this weekend. Our clashes against Uni have been memorable over many years, and this week promises to be no different.
