Round 1 Report

R1 vs Prince Alfred OC - A's, B's & C's Report

The season finally kicked off for our three teams on the weekend.
All teams were away to Prince Alfred Old Collegians, in a tripleheader at Park 9.
The players/coaches were keen to test themselves against Princes - clearly a dominant force in 2016.

Stevo "Super-Coach" Edwards'  C Grade got the club away to a fantastic start.
Playing an excellent brand of team football,  the side ran out convincing winners : 28.18 to 2.4.
Hamish Kernahan was best on ground, Nathan Czernich (4 goals) was impressive, Blake Mios kicked 7 goals in his first game for the club, whilst Ryan Grigg and Mick Aloisi were also stand-outs. Mathew Bosch on debut, and evergreen Paul Norris, both chipped in with 3 majors apiece.

Special thanks to Keith Norris, who also made his debut as a ROCS  team-manager, on the weekend.

The B Grade had a very talented squad, and despite being pushed by last year's D1R Premiers , eventually ran out winners : 10.2 to 6.8. Debutant Doug Hadden was brilliant,  and others to play well included Ollie Wilkie, Tom O'Malley, Tullio DeMatteis, Charlie Jordan and spearhead John Harrison (4 goals).

Trent Versace has been a great clubman, and it was fitting the side got over the line in his 150th game.

Coach Damien Polkinghorne also had a new Team Manager on Saturday, with Phil Franklyn doing the honours.

The A's had a fantastic start to 2017, beating last year's premiers on their home ground.
Fair to say that coach Adrian Rocco and Greg Moulton  had been eagerly awaiting this clash, from the time the fixtures were locked in.
In a high standard encounter, ROCS got on top in the second half, finally winning 14.10 to 9.6.
Best players were James Butterworth, Craig Holm, Michael Coad, Jack Nelligan, Will O'Malley, Nick Hombsch (4 goals), Jimmy Jordan, Braden Allen on debut, and Tom Hurley (3 goals).

Congratulations to "Nells" on reaching his 100 game milestone on Saturday. As always, he was at the bottom of every pack, cleverly evading opponents and clearing the ball from stoppages.

The A Grade leadership group for this year will consist of  Will O'Malley (captain), and vice-captains Tim Baccanello, Paul Fantasia and Daniel McCallum.

Our next game will be at home - after the Easter weekend - against Payneham Norwood Union.

Happy Easter to all our supporters from the players, coaches and the Committee.
