Round 14 Report
A's & B's vs Unley Mercedes Jets
With the C's having the week off, the ROCS A and B grade sides travelled to Kingswood Oval, to play Unley Mercedes Jets.
The B's won comfortably, 14.11 to 5.6, despite being outscored 3 goals to nil in the first quarter - kicking to the "scoring end".
Only up by 4 points at half time, ROCS took full control of the game in the second half. Connor Deegan was best on ground in his 50th game for the club. Mick Aloisi, Josh Weaver and Ryan Grigg continue to show great form in the B's, whilst Sam Tagg (up from the C's), and Tullio DeMatteis (4 goals) were others to impress.
The A's faced a danger game - away to an opponent desperate for a win to help avoid relegation. Down by 2 points at half-time, ROCS were swamped by Unley in the third quarter, and trailed by over 7 goals at the last break.
In one of the club's best comebacks in recent times, ROCS kicked 7.5 to zero in the last term, to run out 4 point winners : 14.12 to 14.8
(24 out of the 28 goals being kicked to the western end).
Brendan Littler was named our best player. Daniel McCallum and Mitch Sutcliffe were exceptional in the last quarter, Craig Holm, Tim Baccanello and Will O'Malley were also amongst our better players.
Unfortunately, the one sour note was Chris Pahl's injury, and we all wish Pahly a full and speedy recovery from the setback.
There will be another triple-header at Campbelltown Memorial Oval this Saturday. The C's will play SHOCS in the early game, whilst the A and B's face Payneham Norwood Union. Simon Emanuele is set to play his 300th, Tom Moore (150), and Daniel Bell (50).
