Round 9 Report
Round 9 saw ROCS host Salisbury North in all 3 grades.
Round 9
104 players have represented the club in 2016.
However, as has often happened previously this time of the year, illness, injury, travel and exams ensured we had just enough players to field 3 teams.
The C grade got the club away to a great start, comfortably defeating the visitors by 11 goals. Sam Tagg (3 goals), Marcus Quinn, and "Grizzly" Adams (3 goals) were high in our best players, whilst Michael De Palma and Matthew Pedlar played their best games for the club.
This week "Super-Coach" Edwards and his team are away to Athelstone. It promises to be a tough encounter, as the "Raggies" will be striving to stay in touch with the top five, whilst ROCS will be keen to retain top spot.
"Lambo's" B Grade battled hard, and deservedly won their second game of the season. Up by nearly 5 goals at half time, ROCS were seemingly in control of the game. However, Salisbury North's straight kicking for goal kept them in the game, and ROCS eventually
ran out 2 point winners. Ruckman Sam Du Bois was back to his best, and had great support from Josh Weaver, Henry Schilling, Ben Jonas, Will Mead and Josh O'Leary.
Greg Patacq's 3 goals were important in a low scoring game. The victory gets the B grade off the bottom of the ladder, and we look to the side having a much better second half of the season.
The A grade had an important encounter against an opponent which had already recorded some impressive wins during the season. Whilst ROCS appeared to have more of the play, the game remained close throughout. Leading by 5 points at quarter time, ROCS went into the main break a goal down, and at the last change were again 5 points up.
Both sides kicked 3.2 in the last term, thus ensuring ROCS secured the valuable two points. Craig Holm was best on ground, followed by "Gubby" Allen, Brendan Littler, Paul Fantasia (4 goals), and Kieran Holland. Congratulations to Nathan Surman on playing his 50th game for the club.
This week we are away to Tea Tree Gully, in what promises to be another exciting and important clash. Gullies were convincing winners last time we played them, and are sitting half a game ahead of us in third spot.
