Coaches Report - R13
A Grade home in an arm wrestle and the C's return to the winning list with a solid four quarter effort
A Grade Report
It was always going to be a tough ask on Saturday as the conditions were likely to be wet and windy, we had some important players missing and Athelstone had won their last three and were playing at home. So it proved to be, although conditions were much better than expected. The game was an arm wrestle where we had a slight deficit at quarter time, a narrow lead at the break, a similar lead of just over a goal at the last change then Athelstone charged at us for the last quarter, hitting the lead with a couple of minutes to go.
To our credit we stood up. Paul Fantasia put us in front by 5 points. A frantic scramble ensued and when the siren sounded the ball was in Drew's hands outside 50. He calmly sent a 'screwy' three quarter post high through the goals by 5 metres to give him 8 for the day!
Best players were Drew Litster,Jack Nelligan, Anthony Medhurst, Ryan Holm, Scott Paul, and Scott Lttler.
Drew is now within one goal of 1000 which is a wonderful milestone. His focus and ours though, is on achieving victory against an improving Pembroke OS team. Hopefully, there will be big crowd at the game and due respect for the moment, the game and the opposition from everyone.
There's also the quiz night on Saturday night which is always entertaining. Again we're looking for a big crowd and strong support for the club.

B Grade Report
With 5 of our most consistent and experienced players missing if was going to be a terrific challenge. Unfortunately another 3 players were forced to withdraw on Friday due to injury and illness and this placed our depth and talent under the microscope. Clearly, the team that took the park on Saturday weren't up to the challenge and our senior players who needed to lift and take the game on failed to do so and in the end we were blown away, particularly disappointing was our lack of intensity and effort in the last quarter when percentage may be critical when trying to make the final 5.
Russell Brooks was outstanding at Half Back and along with Charlie O'Malley did all we would expect and more of 2 young key position players. Tom Taylor and Andy O'Connor were busy around the ball and Hanna and Ash battled but their weight of good players proved too difficult to contain. Whilst Sam Dubois was strong in the ruck and around the ground, we were unable to maximise first use.
We need to put this result behind us quickly and clearly we were well down on personnel and with 5 or 6 returning this week, our side should significantly strengthen.

C Grade Report
After last week's improved performance against Eastern Park the C's faced Wingfield in an important game for our finals chances. The C's responded with a solid four quarter effort and a comfortable 56 point win.
Despite missing several set shots early we generally made the running, controlled the play and played constructive team football. It was particularly pleasing to see the rebound and run coming from the back line and the intensity and competitiveness at the contest.
Best players on the day were Luke Kelly who was outstanding up forward and on the ball, Hayden Edwards whose return from injury was superb as he dominated his wing, Leigh Mosel whose class stood out, Dave Falco who set a great example with his ferocity around the packs and Tom Deegan who gave us great drive from half back and then went forward and looked lively.
All in all it was an encouraging afternoon for the C's and it's great to be back on the winner's list.
