Coaches Report - R16
Rd 16 Vs Portland (away) match review.
Like last week we started this game poorly. We were making silly skill errors and giving Portland too much time and space when they had the ball. Our inaccurate goal kicking made the first quarter even more frustrating. We went into quarter time two points down, ROCs 2.6 to Portland 3.2.
The second quarter saw us kick 6.4 to Portland’s 4.3 in what was becoming a free flowing game of footy. Our ball movement at times was great but our accountability and defensive actions weren’t sharp enough and this allowed Portland to hit the score board too often when they went forward.
Up by eleven points at half time, we started to improve our pressure around the ball and were able to defend them a lot better in the third quarter, restricting them to 1.2 for the quarter. Despite the beautiful conditions our inaccurate goal kicking was spreading, we kicked 3.7 for the third quarter to go into three quarter time with a 28 point lead, ROCS 11.17 to Portland 8.7.
The last quarter was easily our best for the day. Our midfield started to really get on top and we were able to hit the score board 100% of the time we went inside forward 50. We ran away with the game to win comfortably by 67 points. Final scores: ROCS 19.23 to Portland 10.10.
The C’s and B’s also recorded wins on the weekend to make it four weeks in a row that we have won all 3 grades.
Our A’s and C’s are now assured of making the finals, with the two remaining rounds to decide where in the 5 the respective sides will finish.
The B’s are now in 4th spot in the ladder, but with only 3 premiership points separating 3rd and 6th our B’s can still finish anywhere between 3rd and 6th.
It’s an exciting time of the season for all involved, go you ROCS!
