Coaches Report R4
Rd 4 Vs Goodwood at Goodwood Oval
We started the game well and dominated possession in the early part of the first quarter. But frustratingly we weren’t able to reward ourselves on the scoreboard. To make matters worse, Goodwood’s key forwards made the most of their early chances. We were out played in the last 10 or so minutes of the quarter and that saw Goodwood take a 3 goal lead into the first break.
Quarter time scores: ROCS 2.1 (13) to Goodwood 5.1 (31).
Things didn’t improve for us in the second quarter. Our poor skill execution really hurt us and despite kicking to the scoring end we lost the quarter by 10 points. Half time scores: ROCS 4.4 (28) to Goodwood 9.2 (56)
Our ability to defend when the opposition had the ball improved in the third quarter and as a result the game became more of a contest. We kicked 2.1 to Goodwood’s 2.2 during this tight third quarter. 3 quarter time scores: ROCS 6.5 (41) to Goodwood 11.4 (70)
Despite slowly changing the way the game was going in the 3rd quarter we played our worst footy of the match in the last quarter. Again poor skill execution and defence let us down. Final scores: ROCS 7.6 (48) to Goodwood 15.8 (98).
Tom Hurley battled hard all day, Anthony Medhurst gave us something with his ruckwork and Paul Fantasia looked dangerous and kicked well at goal.
The playing group and I understand that we simply have to work harder to get back to the footy we know we are capable of playing. This can only happen through our actions on the track and more importantly putting it all together for 4 quarters this Saturday against Port Districts at Campbelltown Oval.
