Rd 2 Vs PNU at Payneham Oval
In a tight, contested game at Payneham Oval that ended in an exciting last quarter we unfortunately lost by 5 points.
The first quarter was an even affair. But our poor accountability through the midfield and lack of pressure around the ball allowed PNU to hit the scoreboard with virtually every forward 50 entry. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal meant they didn’t hurt us where it really counted. Quarter time scores: ROCS 2.3 to PNU 0.7.
The second quarter we were very poor, we couldn’t get our hands on the footy at the contest and we made some basic errors the few times we actually won possession of the ball. PNU were dominating us in the midfield and this saw them have 13 inside 50 entries to our 4 for the quarter. Due to this poor second quarter we went into half time 11 points down, ROCS 3.4 to PNU 4.9.
To our player’s credit, after half time our intensity around the ball lifted substantially and our ball movement became more direct. Our forwards work rate also looked to lift and they worked hard to keep the ball inside 50. Pleasingly we were also very accurate in front of goal, kicking 5.1 for the quarter. The highlight of the third quarter was an absolute screamer from Nick Hombsch, wow what a mark!
3 quarter time scores: ROCS 8.5 to PNU 6.10.
The last quarter was a fantastic contest and the scores remained close throughout with the lead changing on numerous occasions. I couldn’t doubt our player’s efforts in the last quarter but again some basic errors at crucial times really hurt us.
The players know that we need to be better in these circumstances and eliminate these basic errors. I know the character in this group will drive us to work hard to improve in this area.
This week we take on the inform side of the competition, TTG at Campbelltown. I look forward to seeing how our players respond, I’m sure they will do us all proud.
Final scores: ROCS 9.8 lost to PNU 9.13
