Coaches Report - R13
Rd 13 Vs Tea Tree Gully at Campbelltown Oval
Our previous game against Tea Tree Gully was a great contest that we eventually won by 19. Despite leading all game in this first encounter we never really looked in control of the match. So despite the 4th ranked TTG losing their previous 4 matches, they are a side with a lot of talented players that are capable of dominating Div 1 football. Consequently we went into our Rd 13 match against TTG respectful of what they are capable of.
The first half was a more even contest than the score board indicated, with TTG certainly winning their fair share of the football. But our defence stood up really well and defended strongly, not allowing TTG easy shots at goal. Our forwards were also well on top in the first half which allowed us to hit the scoreboard consistently despite the ball spending more time in TTG’s forward half. Half time scores were: ROCS 9.7 to TTG 4.5.
In the second half it was great to see the player’s continue to defend well as a team whenever TTG had the ball, our tackling being a real highlight. This helped slow up the talented TTG side’s ball movement, restricting TTG’s second half score to 2.3.
We were able to add 7.3 for the second half to win the game by 61 points.
Final scores: ROCS 16.10 to TTG 6.9.
Next week we look forward to the challenge of heading to Goodwood oval to play the undefeated Goodwood Saints in a top of the table clash. In fact all three grades are 1v2 games this week in a triple header at Goodwood Oval so come along and support your ROCS!
