Coaches Report - R3
Rd 3 V SPOC at ROC Park
Another great result from the ROCS with all 3 grades winning in the Anzac Day Special Triple Header vs SPOC at home on Friday.
Plenty of goals in R3, including a big 11 from Harro in the B's, 6 from Luke Sheridan in the C's and another 5 goals from Heath Commane in the A's, following his 9 in R2.
A Grade Coaches Report - R3
Going into our round 3 match against SPOC’s at ROC Park, we were looking to continue our excellent form coming off our round 2, 118 point win against Salisbury North, which was prior to the Easter break.
Following the last post and national anthem our ANZAC day clash with SPOC began in excellent conditions. Both sides played a contested brand of footy early in the game. It was great to see our pressure and tackling was making life hard for the opposition to get any fluid ball movement helping us to keep SPOC scoreless for the first quarter but also managing to kick 2.4 ourselves.
The second quarter was a more even affair and our inaccuracy at goal was starting to be quite annoying for the large ROCS crowd that were there to support us. We went into half time with scores 5.10 to 3.3.
The third quarter was far and away our best quarter of footy. We got on top at stoppages and continually drove the ball forward while also defending with discipline when SPOC had the ball. Kicking 7.3 to SPOC’s 1.3 for the quarter really set us up for the win.
Unfortunately, despite having enough of the ball to extend our three quarter time lead our inaccuracy in front of goal resulted in us losing the last quarter. But despite that it was still a great win for our footy club. The final scores being: ROCS 13.20 (98) to SPOC’s 7.7 (49).
I was pleased to see us tackle well and defend strongly all game and keeping SPOC to a score of 49 is testament to that. Clearly we’d like to reward ourselves better in front of goal; luckily it didn’t hurt us in this game.
It was great to see a lot of ROCS supporters at the footy and at the Alma afterwards. I hope to see you all out again this Sat as we take on Gullies at Pertaringa Oval.
