A Grade Report - 2nd Semi - ROCFC vs Salisbury North
For our second final in a row we were again greeted with fine conditions but this time on a much wider oval at Salisbury North. When we played Salisbury North in rd 11 at Salisbury North in very similar conditions we were well beaten by 9 goals so the ground didn’t hold fond memories for the players.
For the first 10 minutes Salisbury Nth were certainly the better side. They were winning the contested ball and continually drove the ball into their forward half, despite the slight breeze favouring our end. Ben Kerslake’s hanger and Tim Baccanello and Luke Manuel’s goal’s on their non-preferred feet looked to inspire their team mates and spark the ROCS’ into action. We went into the first break with a 13 point lead.
The second quarter was similar to the first but this quarter Salisbury North managed to hit the score board more often for their forward 50 entries. However, their inaccuracy in front of goals didn’t allow them to ever take the lead. The ROCS’ relentless pressure and tackling were certainly a highlight and much appreciated by the passionate ROCS supporters at the ground. At half time the scores read: ROCS 6.5 to Sals Nth 3.9.
The third quarter ultimately set up the win. The players maintained their pressure on the ball carrier, the backline continually won 1 on 1 contest’s and the midfielders run and carry allowed us to kick 4.3 for the third quarter and restrict Salisbury Nth to just 1 goal.
With a 35 point lead at 3 quarter time we found ourselves in a similar position to the week before. Despite Salisbury North having their best quarter in the 4th, kicking 3.3 to our 1.1 we never really looked like being run over and won the match by 21 points.
The win means we progress to the Div 1 grand final!
This Saturday, Salisbury North will play Goodwood in the preliminary final at Salisbury North Oval, with the winner facing us at Thebarton Oval on Sat Sept 21. I know there are a lot of ROCS supporters in Adelaide and all over Australia, it would be great to see as many as possible in Red and Black at Thebby Oval supporting the players on the 21st.
All the best to the B grade in their preliminary final against Salisbury North at Salisbury North. I know if they’re at their best they will be a very good chance of progressing to the Grand Final too.
Congratulations to Stevo and the C graders on their premiership win! I’ve heard it was an absolute nail biter with “Jersey” cooly slotting his 4th very late in the game to take the lead and win the match.
