A Grade Report - R16

Despite the game being 3rd versus 8th the outcome of this match was of great importance to both clubs. Us, to sure up a top 3 finish and Broadview fighting to avoid relegation. So to come away from Broadview oval with a 79 point win certainly made me very happy!

It was great to see us continue our trait of starting the game well, but the frustrating thing was we weren't rewarding ourselves on the scoreboard. Even though we looked well in control of the game in the first quarter we only took a 9 point lead into the first break.

The middle two quarters were easily our most dominate period of the match, where we scored 12.6 and conceded only 2.2. The midfield, led by Craig Holm, Wil O'Malley and Jimmy Jordan won plenty of the ball, Drew Litster, Paul Fantasia and Ben Kerslake repeatedly won battles with their direct opponents and Mitch Sutcliffe led a tight defensive group with several aggressive spoils. This saw us go into the 3/4 time break with a match winning 73 point lead.

We now turn our attention to playing Goodwood at Goodwood. It would be great to continue our winning momentum and do something we are yet to do this season and beat one of the top two sides.

On behalf of the A grade group I'd like to wish Stevo and the C grade players all the best in their first final this weekend.

B Grade Report - R16

Round 16 saw us come against Broadview at their home ground. While they were out of the finals race, they proved to be a tough opposition particularly in the first half where their aggression at the contest and willingness to run hard from defence really tested the ROCS boys. 2 goals down and mid-way through the 2nd quarter, the players significantly lifted their intensity and began using the ball more efficiently. As a result we kicked 8 goals to 1 for the remainder of the game to win by 41 points.

Whilst we have played some excellent football in parts in the last 2 weeks, we must make sure we work on our slow starts and capitalising on our chances. We have a fantastic challenge against Goodwood Saints this week. The ROCS B grade are certainly up for the fight and I’m confident will take right up to them!

Final Scores: ROCS 11-15 (81) def Broadview 6-4 (40)
Goal Scorers: J. Butterworth 4, J. Abfalter 4, T. Versace 1, R. Grigg 1, C. Jones 1
Best Players: C. Ash, T. Taylor, N. Janetzki, J. Nelligan, J. Lyons
