A's & B's Reports uploaded - three big wins against PHOS Camden

A Grade Report - R9

With PHOS pushing numbers behind the ball the ROCS found it difficult to hit the scoreboard in the first half despite having a lot more of the ball than the opposition. Apart from a 10-15 minute period in the second quarter we were well on top at the stoppages all match. The players also delivered on my demand that they played with a strong defensive mindset in order to restrict PHOS's inside 50's count. In fact the players need to be commended for delivering on this request as they restricting PHOS to only 29 inside 50's for the match. This is easily the best result we have had in this area all season. I was also pleased with our intensity around the footy and our tackling of the opposition was of good quality all day.

The second half we were able to move the ball quicker into our forwards and they capitalised on this, kicking an accurate 17.5 for the second half. Our defenders stayed disciplined and stuck to their roles all day and as a defensive group I was particularly pleased with their organisation and use of the ball coming our of our back 50.

Craig Holm found a heap of the ball and kicked 2 goals to cap off a great game. Brendan Littler was clean, made good decisions and also kicked two outstanding goals. John Corbett and Mitch Sutcliffe were solid in defence and gave us great rebound from the back half. Simon Fitzgerald was pulled from the B grade minutes before the B grade match started to play his first A grade match of the season and he played his role superbly. Drew Litster kicked accurately again this week and was rewarded with 6 goals and Jack Nelligan played an excellent second half.

Congratulations to Charlie Jordan (first year out of school) for acquitting himself so well in his first A grade match for the season. I have been wanting to promote Charlie for some weeks now as his form in the B grade has been outstanding all year.

This week we take on Goodwood Saints at ROC Park in the battle for outright top spot. This is the first time we've faced Goodies this season and they are the only side we failed to register a win against last season.

Myself and the players are looking forward to the challenge and I look forward to seeing you at Campbelltown oval supporting the players and club.

B Grade Report - R9

After a well earned break over the long weekend bye, the ROCS B Grade were looking to continue their strong form against PHOS Camden. A few injuries gave young players Josh Weaver, Connor Deegan and Tyler Gava a well earned opportunity after strong form in the C Grade. The ROCS played some solid team footy in the 1st Quarter to open up a 23 point advantage at Quarter time. During the 2nd Quarter we struggled to break away from a determined PHOS, where their tactics of trying to congest the contest and stoppages with numbers turned the game into a scrappy affair. Whilst the ROCS were never in danger of losing the match (winning by 50 points), it was disappointing at times to see us unwilling to take the game on and finish off the opportunities that we had created.

Kieran Smith was exceptional on a wing, where his silky skills where a highlight. Kieran has very high expectations of himself, so after a few sub-par performances, it was great to see him hit some form. Tom O'Malley and Chris Ash continued their strong form this year, their ability to win the ball and provide us with run and carry is very important. Marcus Quinn in the ruck was competitive all day, and provided our midfielders with plenty of opportunities and Shannon Castellano across half-back a solid contributor.

This week sees us come up against Goodwood Saints. Its imperative we have a strong week on the track and prepare ourselves to make sure we come away with a win!
