A's & B's record good wins over Broadies and C's 21 goal win in the wet against Gepps Cross
A Grade Report - R8
On Saturday we faced a desperate Broadview side in wet and slippery conditions at Campbelltown Oval. Not having faced these conditions this season it was always going to be intersting to see how the players would adjust and ultimately perform.
During the first quarter we saw much the same as what we saw last week against TTG. We couldn't get pur hands on the footy at stoppages and we were too often second to the ball and gave away far too many clumsy free kicks. Fortunately for us Broadview's inaccurate goal kicking meant their first quarter dominance didn't directly transfer onto the score board.
After quarter time the players structured up better at stoppages, were more deperate at the contested ball and were smarter about the way they tackled. This resulted in a complete momentum shift in the game that saw us kick 7 goals for the quarter, which set us up to run away with the game in the second half to win by 33 points.
With Peter Baccanello hurting his ankle Thurs night at training the popular Sam Bowler got an opportunity to play his first A grdae game for the year and played a solid game in the back pocket. 19 year old Mitch Sutcliffe took on more responsibility this week and continues to bring flexibility to our side. Anthony Medhurst played his best game for the season and will be greatly missed as his work takes him to London for the rest of the year. Matt Dawes played better and better as the game went on as his consistent season continues. Some of Drew Litster's clean takes with the slippery ball were outstanding and his 5 straight goals had a huge impact on the result.
With the bye this weekend we'll take the opportunity to freshen up, both mentally and physically before we head into the final 10 games of the season.
I'd also like to wish Luke Manuel and Dan McCallum all the best if they are selected in the SAAFL U/23's side to play the Vic Amateur U/23's this Sat at Thebby Oval.
