A Grade Report - R1 vs PHOS
To win the first game of the season by 11 goals is certainly a great result and a nice reward for the hard work done over the summer. However, the reality is the final score actually flatters our performance on the day. Despite winning every quarter it was only the last quarter that we won by a significant margin.
Our dominance in the last quarter was a result of our midfield getting on top and winning the clearance count 15-5 for the quarter highlights this fact. This resulted in us moving the ball into our forward line a lot faster and allowed our forwards more space to work in. Our ability to kick to the advantage of our forwards also improved greatly in the last quarter. To have 14 scoring shots (7.7) from our 15 forward 50m entries for the quarter indicates just how potent the forwards were once we moved the ball better through our midfield. Admittedly it would’ve been better if we were more efficient kicking at goal and in those conditions it was disappointing to kick so many points.
Will O’Malley was solid all day and lead the team well. Ben Kerslake - on debut for the ROCS - competed hard and took some great contested marks and finished with 3 goals. Tim Baccanello and Dan McCullum, also playing their first game for the ROCS, were both hard at it and showed poise and composure in traffic. The fourth player making his ROCS debut; Brendan Littler accumulated possessions all day and gave us some drive and class through the midfield. The most pleasing individual performance came from Luke Manuel. To kick 5 goals in his first game back from a shoulder reconstruction certainly exceeded our expectations and is a great reward for the diligence he showed during his long rehab following his surgery.
Next week we have a big challenge against Salisbury North, again at Campbelltown Oval. Like us they had a big last quarter to run over the top of Henley in round one. I look forward to seeing everyone at the footy again next week supporting the mighty ROCS.

B Grade Report - R1 vs PHOS
After a long and hard pre-season the ROCS B grade played their opening match against PHOS Camden at home. The team welcomed 5 new players to the club in Ryan Grigg, Nic Holland, Charlie Jordan, Tom O'Malley, Marcus Quinn and James Slattery. The first half was a tight and close contest, with the ROCS at times overusing the footy and not capitalising on their chances. With the margin only 15 points at half time, the ROCS produced an outstanding 3rd Quarter to kick 7 goals to none. The style of team orientated footy that the boys exhibited after half-time was extremely pleasing as this has been a focus at training over the pre-season period, and is something that we will continue to work on. The ROCS were eventual winners by 74 points.
It was a fantastic team effort with all 21 players making a strong contribution. Special mentions must go to Dan Gilbert, who in his 50th game demonstrated an outstanding work rate to kick 3 goals and be our most dominate midfielder. Steve McKenna was also exceptional on his wing, creating plenty of run and scoring opportunities. These 2 players along with James Slattery and John Harrison (5 goals) were instrumental in our strong 2nd half performance. The backline also must be recognised in their outstanding effort in holding the opposition to 5 goals for the game. We look forward to the challenge of playing Salisbury North this week, who will no doubt provide a bigger challenge for the players.

C Grade Report - R2 vs PHOS
Season 2013 kicked into top gear this week with the C1 side starting proceedings in the early fixture of a triple header at the Home of Football (Roc park taking on Phos Camden in all 3 grades. There's been a real buzz of excitement around the club this season with new coach's (Wiggs-A's & Banno-B's). A stampede of new players trying out in all grades & new committee led by Gilbo the new President, even Vicki has joined in with a couple of new assistants on the training staff. Thursday night selection was a 'good' nightmare as the Coaches had plenty of cattle to fill the sides, club legend Marcus Trimboli back at his favourite club speaking at 'Jumper presentations' ably assisted by a few of Rocs 'superstars' of his era.
The clubs next challenge is not becoming complacent. We all have to 'still do the hard work in each game' & must become better players each week, a point Senior coach Wiggs stressed to the group as the club strives to stay in the top flight of the SAAFL competition & become a powerful & respected force.
Magnificent conditions greeted the C1 combatants in the early game at Roc Park, with a couple of late withdrawals in the higher grades, having our 3 emergencies used to strengthen our line-up keeping the squad at the maximum 25 players that can be used a great innovation in the C grade comp.
Kicking to the ‘Guy Sebastian Memorial End’ the Rocs were quickly out of the blocks, using quick ball movement, run & carry our two pronged attack consisting of Hados (one legged Ranga) Edwards & resting ruckman Funky (Sam) Millard the Rocs had the scoreboard ticking over with both players booting 2 goals in the first 10minutes of the game. With our ruck division on top early, onballers TJ Taylor, Wizzard (Vic) Pisanello & debutant Jacko Adams a young man possessing electrifying pace kept racking up touches delivering the ball to our forwards. Wingman Josh (Rowdy) O’Leary & Josh Weaver (another of our new brigade of 11 debutants at senior level) used their pace & fearless attack on the ball to create chances to the forward structure. PHOS Camden kept trying hard to stem the flow & linked up to provide full forward Wieggelmann who led & marked well, several opportunities to shoot on goal. The Rocs kept the pressure on PHOS applying tackles & pressure on the ball carrier over the full 22 minutes, finishing the quarter well on top as Grizzly (Scott) Adams, Snorkel (Matt) Zamparelli & Bobcat / MF Jones joined in the goal fest as the Rocs slammed home 8 goals in an excellent display of team footy.

At the break our players were urged to keep the pressure on the opposition & work hard to stay on top around the ground & at the stoppages in play. Many changes were made to the teams structure with the new players all performing well including Nick Janetski changing in the centre, Chris (the Experiment) Press on a wing, Dan (plugger) Farrugia in defence, Jack (tooth) Pick at full forward & a baby faced youngster Jack Tagg (brother of last season’s sensation Sam) who starred on his wing showing poise & composure setting up his forward teammates & taking the game on. During the remaining 3 quarters of the game Rocs produced a sensational display of team footy booting 6-5 & 7 goals while holding PHOS scoreless. A truly outstanding game by our young squad with a mixture of seasoned campaigners to provide stability and the highest score kicked by the C’s over the last 6 seasons.
Also pleasing to witness was the way our young squad handled the hard tackles & heavy hits handed out by PHOS as they threw everything they could to stop the Juggernaut in full flight. Our big challenge over the next few weeks is to not drop our intensity or work rate & continue to run out games as we face teams that were finals combatants last season.
