A Grade 11 goal win and Simon Emanuele game 200 win by 3 points in the C's

A Grade Report

The first half was untidy and scrappy and we were unable to really play with the fluency, structure or discipline that we needed to. We were on top early but let them lead by 7 points at half time after a couple of late defensive lapses. In the second half, we kicked 14 goals to 2; 8 to 1 in the third quarter to blow the game way with skill, run and teamwork for a very encouraging win. Best players were John Corbett, Scott Paul, Scott Gilbert, Tom Wigley, Craig Holm and Scott Littler in a game where most played well in the second half after an indifferent start. Tom Moore deserves a special mention for his efforts in ruck against much bigger bodies.

B Grade Report

It is becoming repetitious are inability to concentrate and compete at the same intensity for 4 quarters. This week we went missing in the second term and allowed Walkerville to kick 4.6 with us goalless and that ended up being the difference despite winning the second half. Whilst it is difficult to sustain consistency with 6 changes week in week out, we must get better at thinking team before individual performance.

Whilst we are a young group with many first year players, we need more from them, particularly our talls who do not compete and impose themselves on the game when the heat is on. We need to move beyond competing to win games and win well as we get plenty of the ball, however our skill set is way below the level required to be strong at this level.

Our second half was much more like the style of footy we are capable, led by Chris Ash in ruck , Trent Versace and Tom Taylor who gave us hardness and accountability in the centre square we were a lot more direct and gave our forwards a chance one on one and through Alex McKenzie and Dale Sheedy we looked like we were capable of putting scoreboard pressure on. Unfortunately we gave them a 6 goal start and it was too much to claw back.

With another strong challenge this week away at Flinders Park, we need to remain focused over the 4 quarters and be selfless in our pressure and work rate if we are to put in the kind of performance we are capable off.

Congratulations to C Grade Simon Emanuele on 200 dour games for the club in the Back pocket. Congratulations also to Luke Kelly who played his 100th game for the club, coming back from serious injuries and playing good footy but contributing to the club off field as a terrific clubman.

C Grade Report

The C grade's round 6 game against Walkerville represented a massive occasion for the team and the club, as it marked two significant individual milestones.

Congratulations to Simon Emanuele, the C grade captain who played his 200th game for the club. Simon, who commenced his ROCS career in 1992 has been an outstanding stalwart of the club. Congratulations also to Luke Kelly for reaching the 100 game mark, Kels has also been a great servant of the club.

The game itself was an even battle from go to whoa and went down to the wire in a tense finale. The first half saw the C's gain a slight ascendency but after a lethargic third quarter the scores were level at three quarter time. With the game on the line several players lifted and willed the team to a gutsy and morale boosting victory.

The C's best player for the day was the 200 game man himself who starred across half back. Simon's reading of the play and clean ball handling was a highlight of the game and his mark in the defensive goal square in the dying minutes was match saving. Other better players were Paul Arnfield who was lively up forward and influential in the midfield, Bails who worked tirelessly on his wing, Ned Taylor who was resolute in the back line and Wombat who was creative and competitive all day.

All in all a great result for the C's and a fitting way to cap a special day for the team, Simon and Kels.
