Coaches Report R17

A's drop game, B's continue to cement themselves towards the finals run and the C's win by forfeit

A Grade Report - R17

We were outplayed by a more desperate Port District who played with much better structure than we did. We had periods of good play, notably in the second and last quarters, but too often our skill level by both hand and foot was poor.

To our credit we did fight the game right out but didn't take our chances. Obviously, we are well placed on the laddder, however, we don't want to play like this in the finals or we won't go anywhere. We cannot drop off at all or we slip back to being an ordinary team in a very competitive league.

Craig Holm and Matthew Dawes were outstanding and a long way ahead of other players. Tom Birch, Peter Baccanello, Ben Birch and Will O'Malley had some good moments. This week we finish the minor round against Payneham at home so hopefully there'll be a good crowd.

B Grade Report - R17

Rocs B-Grade made it 6 straight wins with a 9 goal victory over Port Distrcits down at Largs Bay on Saturday. The win keeps us in with a chance to steal 3rd place at the end of the minor round if results go our way and we can overcome Payneham Norwood this coming weekend.

Kicking with a strong breeze we kicked the first goal inside 30 seconds through a good grab from 40m out with Dave Eckert and we opened up a 25 point lead at quarter time in a rough quarter of football. It was pleasing to see our players absorb the rough tactics and continue to make the ball the priority and hurt them on the scoreboard.

Going against the breeze in the second term our defence was outstanding as we kept them goalless and scored 3 important goals up into the breeze. Another 5 goals with the breeze in the third term opened up a 9 goal lead and we broke even in the last quarter against the breeze to record a satisfying win. While the margin looks big there are still a few areas that we need to improve before the finals. Again our voice and instruction needs to keep improving and our teammates need to listen to the voice as well. Our forwards need to apply more defensive pressure and man up on the kick ins alot better than we did this past weekend. Getting front and centre and when we switch the ball we need to move it on alot quicker.

Chuck Norris played well in defence out of his back pocket and was awarded 5th best for the game. 4th best went to Ryan Catellano who made a welcome return to the club after a couple weeks off. Casta has dominated all b-grade games he's played from the centre and he uses the ball well and uses his body to crash through packs and get the ball forward. Chris Cialini was rated 3rd best for his efforts in the backline early and then on the ball later in the game. Chilly has found some good form and relished his new role on the ball to help keep fresh legs around the contest. Patrick Murphy continues to be important to us in ruck and gives us first use of the ball and reads the play around the ground really well. Best player for the weekend clearly went to Dale Sheedy who dominated as an onballer and resting up forward. Sheeds had a great pair of hands and took plenty of contested marks and used his strength to delivery the ball well up forward.

Stevie McKenna, Jeremy O'Leary and Dave Eckert also played solid games and were unlucky not to make the best players as well.

In the final minor round game for the season, our aim is to continue improving as a team and get a good win up against Payneham this week to take some good momentum into the finals.
