Coaches Report R9

C's uploaded for R8 + R9 plus all the A's and B's Reports for R9 (And what a weekend is was with 53 goals scored for the round !!!!)

A Grade Report - R9

Payneham Norwood Union were very undermanned and tried to close the game down with tight one on one tactics all over the field. These didn't work as we were able to break the game open and dominate all day to win convincingly by 101 points. Our running, handball and teamwork were very good and we had 44 shots on goal, probably suggesting that we should've won by even more!

Better players were Ryan Holm, Peter Baccanello, Ben Moyle, Sam Bowler, Sam Bridge, Chris Pahl and Craig Holm. We have a welcome bye, then a danger game at Athelstone.

B Grade Report - R9

The B Grade celebrated the years first back-to-back wins with a 125 point win over 7th placed Payneham Norwood Union. It was very pleasing to see this young team gain confidence and being prepared to learn from the couple of senior men in the team.

Ryan Castallano, Paul Norris, Dave Eckert and Matt Footner provided plenty of experience and direction for the young men in the side. Our backline was sensational and Payneham only scored their first goal halfway through the final quarter. We ran the game out well kicking 4 goals in the first and second quarters and 6 goals scored in the third and final term.

Obviously there were plenty of good players and it was hard to pick the best five for presentations on Saturday night. Dave Eckert and Tim Felice were both good up forward kicking 5 goals each and Eamonn Hanna has been very solid and dependable at centre half back since coming back a couple of weeks ago. Andy O'Connor was very good off half back again, sneaking down and kicking a good goal in the last quarter. Tom Taylor is a hard ball getter and gives us a lot of drive on the ball. Matt Footner in his comeback match got better as the game went on and helped bring some younger players into the game. Patrick Holland read the ball extremely well in the backline and used the ball much better than in previous weeks. Best on ground was Ryan Castallano playing in the centre. He found plenty of the ball and attacks the ball and the opposition with real determination. It is great to see Ryan play so well and put his name back up for selection in the A's.

We have good momentum leading into a much needed break and look forward to our game with Athelstone after the long weekend.

C Grade Report - R8 & R9

Round 8

Round 8 and 9 for the ROCS C-Grade team had always loomed as a tough couple of weeks as our playing resources were stretched to the limit. In true ROCS fashion we still managed to have a line up that would prove very competitive.

The Port Districts game saw the ROCS winners 19.22 136 to Pt Districts 2.2 14 in a one sided affair that had us wasting many chances on goal. To their credit Pt District rallied after half time to put some score on the board and the ROCS had a tough challenge to deal with.
Nick McDonough, Best On Ground, played an excellent game and his attack on the ball is second to none. Nicko cut a swathe through the half back line and sent many attacking moves into our forward line. On loan from the UK,  Damian “Hot Chilli” Cialini dominated his position at half forward to slot through three goals. Not bad for a player who hasn’t played footy for 8 years. Other players in great form were Hayden “H-Bomb” Edwards and Paul “The Cheese” Arnfield who ran riot on their wings. H-Bomb, with three goals, and Cheesey with 1.5 also found time and space to have several shots on goal. Our “new” first ruck Tom “Wilderbeast”  Wilson had a fantastic game and really came of age in his position to be high up in our best players in his first game leading the ruck. Vic “Pissa” Pisanello was back to his best and set up many attacking moves from the center.

The ROCS had thirteen different goal scorers and this is the way we want to spread our attacking moves.
This game gave us the opportunity for some players to gain valuable game time with Lee “Gene” Simmons lining up in the second half at Full Forward. Gene also kicked his first goal since under 9’s with a strong lead and kick. This added to his improvement and encouraging recent form as Gene has been an increasingly valuable contributor in recent weeks. First gamers Mick Grecko, part of the Cialini entourage, and Gary “Velvet” Velez  also got on the scorecard to assist the team.

Round 9

ROCS vs Norwood Payneham Union at ROC park was a very entertaining game. The boys started very well but were pegged back by a persistent opponent.  Quarter time score was ROCS 3.3 to PNU 2.2. The second and third quarters had our boys back to their brilliant best combining great defense with quick ball movement into attack. Troy “Barndog” Barnes proved a great option in attack and working with recruit Paul Emanuele both kicked three goals for the game. Nick “Nicko” McDonough continued his outstanding form to be easily best on Ground from half back. Jesse Abfalter played a great game to regain his touch and be the ROCS second best. Craig “Mr Fabulous” Fabbian had a standout game in his new role across half forward. Vic “Pissa” Pisanello continued his magnificent form and is surely the barometer of our team. A fine return from injury from Paul Whitford at Center Half Back had him high up in the best half a dozen ROCS players. To their credit, PNU never gave up and outscored us in the last quarter. The ROCS lineup limped to the final bell and all our players now have a very well deserved and much anticipated two week rest. Final scores were ROCS 12.12 84 to PNU 5.5 35.
The C-Grade squad have really performed above all expectations and must be ready for the second half of a very competitive season.

Going fishing……. back soon
