2011 Mr ROC Report

Mr ROC was back bigger than ever in 2011

After a successful return from the football wilderness in 2010, Mr ROC was back bigger than ever in 2011. In an inspired move by all concerned, Mr ROC 2011 followed on straight after the 2011 Ladies Day proceedings, thereby combining two of the great days on the social calendar.

This combination of events was certainly embraced by the large crowd, but what did the contestants think about the significant increase in numbers of the fairer sex…?
Well, they were all bloody nervous! Chris ‘Creep’ Pahl, the short priced favourite to take the prestigious red jacket home had little sleep the previous night. He wasn’t nervous about a big game against Adelaide University, he was nervous about round five of Mr ROC and what he would have to do to win what he wanted most.

I digress. Five brave souls suited up for what I regard as the most open field in a long time. We certainly had a great mix which included the aforementioned Chris Pahl, new ROCs cult figure Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Bartold, the split personality of Dan ‘Chad’ Gilbert, new A Grade ruckman Rohan ‘Cutsey’ Watson and the first ever coach to compete being Glen ‘Malks’ Malkin. I must say it was also fantastic to have former winner Craig ‘The Great Ox’ Fabbian in the room to present the red jacket to the most deserving.

The five rounds consisted of a few old favourites being the skull-off, maximum pushups and hypothetical Q&A.

In round four we witnessed the return of the individual player talent, which included Chad singing, the Creep break dancing, Malks singing ‘Dirty Deeds’, Bang Bang’s attempt to long arm a pint of beer and Cutsey’s out of tune Wonderwall. Going into round 5, which is of course the group strip tease, 7 points separated first and second place.

At this point, I would like to take the time to thank our beautiful judges Vic, Lizzie, Kelly, Sophie and Alicia for putting up with some horrible responses to questions, out of tune singing, Malks and the sheep, excessive nudity, and Chris Pahl losing a push-up challenge to a young lady named Emily. I am still not sure if I was aroused or scared by her one handed pushups… Perhaps it was both……

Unfortunately, despite the valiant efforts of each contestant, only one man can be left standing at the conclusion of Mr ROC. That man was Chris ‘Creep’ Pahl, who through his sheer willingness to get naked and ROC out with his old fella, managed to knock off Dan Gilbert (who happened to be leading going into the final round). I must advise potential future participants, a couple of ladies liked what they saw and let’s just say Chris didn’t go home alone….

In the end there was daylight and then the rest of the contestants, but nevertheless, each of your efforts was appreciated. Pahlly now only needs to win the Ivy League Best Team Man (complements of Luke Schapel) award to take out the trifecta of the most sought after ROCs accolades.

Once again, thank you to the judges and contestants for your effort. The crowd, who was also fantastic, really appreciated the level of preparation the gentlemen (I use this term very loosely) put in. Congratulations also to Kate, Tash, Eliza, Ashley and Chantel for facilitating a magnificent ROCS Ladies Day.
