Finals - Week 2

A's vs TTG, B's vs PAOC & C's vs Modbury

The second week of the finals saw ROCS play a triple-header at the Campbelltown Memorial Oval - aka "The Quarry, ROC Park, "Home of football", Stevo's Academy". All 3 games were played in fine conditions, in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.

Up against minor premiers Modbury, the C's had their chances, but ultimately went down in a low-scoring encounter. Despite a slow start, the team gradually got back into the game, with the final scores being 8.5 to 9.10.

John McCarron and Trent Versace were excellent again, and Michael De Palma provided plenty of run. Others to play well included, John Harrison, Ryan Grigg, Carlton "Jesaulenko" Hollsten, and Mick "Schlick" Aloisi (3 goals). Congratulations to Darren Leggett on playing his 100th game for ROCS. A great clubman, Darren would have reached the milestone much sooner, had he not been plagued by persistent injuries. The C grade is now scheduled to travel to Tea Tree Gully (Pertaringa Oval) on Saturday, and meet Adelaide University in the Preliminary final starting at 10.15 am.

The B's bounced back from last week's narrow loss, dominating their clash wth Prince Alfred Old Collegians. In a 4 quarter effort, ROCS led all day to run out winners 16.13 to 2.5. Scott Gilbert continued in his rich vein of form and was best on ground. Chris Pahl again showed his class and Nathan Hornhardt was an important contributor. Tom O'Malley played very well after recovering from last week's knock, and was as courageous as ever. Beau Williamson was also impressive. The major goal-kickers were  Liam Holland with 4 goals, Jack and Sam Tagg (3 each). Polky's team also faces Adelaide Uni at Pertaringa Oval in this week's Preliminary Final - 12.15 start.

The A Grade opened its 2017 finals campaign with a resounding 17.11 to 5.7 victory over Tea Tree Gully.
Down at quarter time, Adrian Rocco's men restricted the opposition to 4 points in the last 3 quarters. Michael Coad (5 goals) was outstanding. 2017 Division 1 Medallist Will O'Malley was not far behind, whilst Nick Dinham (3 goals), Dan McCallum and Mitch Sutcliffe all played very well. Heath Commane kicked 4 majors. The team now has a week off to refine its game. It will then play the Grand Final against the winner of this week's clash between TTG and Payneham Norwood Union.

The B and C grades will greatly appreciate your support, as they endeavour to join the A's on Grand Final day.
